Do you read eBooks using Kindle devices or Kindle Reading Apps?
Did you try on publishing your eBooks to Amazon as a Kindle eBook?
If you have a 'Yes' as the answer of either one of the questions above, you should be familiar with KDP Select scheme.
KDP Select Definitions:
KDP Select is a publishing method in the angle of eBook publisher. For readers, it means a scheme that allows readers to download the eBook with $0 cost.
If publisher enroll his or her eBook to KDP Select Scheme, some of the readers will be able to download the eBook for free. However, just some of the readers can get the advantage, they are:
1. Those who own a Kindle device
2. Those who have registered as a Prime user. Each prime user can download (or borrow) ONE eBook (which the author has enroll the book to the KDP Select Scheme) for free. Once they use this quota, they need to wait until next month to download other non-free book again.
3. Those who are living in U.S. Amazon will check the location of users by making use of their ISP. If the user lives in U.K., they won't be able to enjoy the Prime user discount. Only U.S residence does.
If you fulfill all the 3 criterias mentioned above, you are classified as a Prime User and can get one eBook for free per month!
Should publishers enroll to the scheme?
For publishers, since they have a choice on enrolling to the scheme or not, their biggest concern is, Should I enroll my eBooks to KDP Select Scheme?
I had the same question in my head few days ago too.
My worry was, enrolling to KDP select scheme let large volume of Amazon users to download my eBook for free. I was so worry that everyone gets my copy but I earn nothing. You know, writing an eBook is not easy.
However, 2 days past after I published my eBook, the number of download is 0.
So I panic, and I changed my mind. I enroll my book to the scheme, hope that I can earn something after the Lunar New Year holiday (I am Chinese).
After doing so, I get the answers. Now I can tell you the results:
Advantages of enrolling
1. Get earning share
For each eBook enrolled, Amazon will pay publisher using a revenue share scheme. For example, if there are 3000 borrows in total, and your book is being downloaded for 1000 times, then you will earn 1000/3000=30% of the total revenue.
Here the revenue is not the revenue of Amazon, but the available fund that Amazon announced in the publisher page. I don't know where did the fund come from, but it normally looks good. The fund is $700,000 of January of 2012.
This is important. If you think your book is not good enough to attract thousands of buyers, you should enroll to the scheme. Since the fund is always much, you should at least earn a few dollars from your book, even 0 people is buying your book.
2. You are allow to do free promotions
You may think you can do the promotions on your own through other websites or your blog. However, I have tried and I feel that it is difficult at first. Even you have a high traffic website/ blog, not all visitors use Kindle. Therefore, not all the visitors seeing your promotions will read your book.
However, if you make use of the free promotions from the KDP Select Scheme, it does make some effects. After you trigger the promotion, your eBook will be free to download for EVERYONE (not only prime users). Trust me, large volume of Kindle users search for the $0 eBooks every day in every category. If you promote your book in other sites, people may not see your advertisement. Even they see that, they may not purchase. But $0 price in Kindle really catch many eyeballs. I got more 250 downloads after the first day of my promotions. And, the most important is, this 250 downloads push my book up from the search engine and therefore more and more people know the existence of my book. Number of downloads thus continue increase even the free promotion period ends.
Disadvantages of enrolling
1. No earning for each borrows.
You won't earn anything for each borrows, as Prime users don't need to pay a thing for your book.
2. Earnings from the revenue share is not updated real time
In Kindle earning report, you can only see the number of downloads and number of borrows, which update regularly (maybe 1-2 hours). Earnings from the revenue share are not updated real time. Therefore, you won't be able to see how much you can get, until the end of the month.
Conclusion
I personally think that publishers, especially beginners with no reputations, should enroll their books to the KDP Select scheme.
You don't need to worry that enrolling to the scheme let you earn $0 even many people downloaded your book. I used to think so, but this is definitely wrong.
Prime users can only download 1 eBook for free per month, and they need to pay more than $30 to get the Prime membership. If you are a Prime member, will you use this quota to download eBooks carelessly?
Prime users don't want to waste their quota! They want to use their quota to buy the most expensive eBook! They borrow books more than $20, and won't waste the quota on eBooks cost less than $2.99!
Therefore, you actually don't need to worry, enrolling the scheme definitely not going to lose you much. If you don't mind of selling the eBook exclusively to Amazon for 90 days long, GO AHEAD!

Writing articles, writing eBooks, developing apps, which one earn more?

Background Story:
The origin that makes me start Internet earning, is the hatred of my current job. Working makes me sick. I don't want to listen to my unreasonable bosses, but I have to stay in keep working with them. Every morning when I wake up, I don't want to go out for work. I hate this situation, but nothing I can do. This situation continues for half a year.
One day, I found that I can't stand it anymore. I start searching some ways for earning. I have searching for a long time. Until now I have found a few methods that work.
Methods That Really Works
1. Developing mobile apps.
Nowadays, most of the citizens own a smartphone. The most popular type should be iPhone and android devices. Both of them allow Internet users to publish their own apps. To earn money, you have two choices.
Firstly, you can publish paid apps, which mean user needs to pay you some amount of money, e.g. USD 0.99, to download your apps.
Secondly, you can publish free apps with ads attached in it. You can then earn money when user download and view your app. Since user doesn't need to pay for the app, the download volume for this method is always high.
In my own experience, earning through this method is a long process, and you need time to develop a cool app. However, this method do earn a lot because extremely large volume of users use mobile apps nowadays, even more then people who read eBooks.
2. Writing EBooks.
Writing eBooks is another way to make some money. Nowadays writing and publishing an eBook is very easy. What you need to do is an Amazon account, write an eBook in .doc format (using Microsoft Word), and then upload to Amazon. You can also use other publishing site such as Smashwords.
This method also takes a long time to go, since you need a log of time to write a book.
However, I personally think writing eBook take shorter time than app development. Therefore, if you have no technical background, try this method!
3. Writing Articles
Writing articles is similar to writing eBooks. However, you need shorter time. What you need to do is to keep writing articles like this one, and publish to any articles site.

This method is the quickest and easiest one I think. However, since you earn through advertisement of the site, the earning is comparatively lower among the 3 methods, and you need to write more to generate money.

Nowadays
there are more and more sites that allow you to publish articles written by
you. Expertscolumn is one of the choices. There exist the others, such as
Helium, Tripod, and Associate Column.
Normally
I write articles according to my own feelings. For example, if I read a book
today, and I look it very much, I will write a short article for it and publish
it to Expertscolumn.
Before
using Expertscolumn, I have try on using Triond. Triond is one of the most
popular writing sites, which many writers give positive comments in the
Internet. You can search Triond at Google to check them out.
However,
I seldom use Triond. The reason is that, I am very disappointed to the article
checking system. I wrote my articles on my own. However, after I submit, Triond
always prompt that ‘duplicated content’ is found and decline my submission.
Start from my registration, I have already submitted 5-6 articles; all are
written by myself, and not published elsewhere at that time. Triond still ‘prompt
duplicated content is found’. Therefore, I have no successful submission at
Triond.
I am not
saying that duplicate checking is useless, but I think duplications on ideas
(not words) are acceptable. Why can’t I publish a new articles with similar
ideas, but with different, or even the most updated figures, experiences, and
images?
I really
didn’t copy anything, I just write from my own. So I really don’t know how my
articles can duplicate with the others.
I think
Triond can improve a lot if they can provide the evidence they found for the
duplications.
This is
just my personal feelings and experience, no blaming is trying to make. If you

Looking for Admob and Adsense Alternatives with Good Quality
If you have read my previous post on 'Google banned my Admob account when $60 is going issue', you may know that I need a Google Admob and Adsense alternatives.
I have search the web roughly, and found a few advertising agents which support Android applications. Since my developed app only supports Android devices, I need an advertising agent which provide good quality ads for Android applications.
In my point of view, I think the most important factor that a good advertising agent has, is the percentage of fill rate. As a publisher, I hope that ads are displayed as much as possible. However, advertising agents hold a limited pool of ads. Not every display of your application can get an ads display. If there are no ads available temporary, no ads will be shown. Therefore, I really want to find a advertising agent that provide high fill rate.

Google banned my Admob account when $60 is going issue
Have you try on earning through mobile advertising?
If you do, you may already know Admob.
Admob is a popular advertising agent in mobile advertising industry, and is recently integrated with Google Adsense.
I personally had no bad comments on Admob. However, I promise I will never use it again.
During the New Year Holiday, I got an great income boost in Admob. I think this is because many people are free during the new year period and they have more time to play with their mobile phone.
Today is 1st Feb. I should receive $60 payment from Google Admob. However, I found no payment issued. So, I log in to my Admob to check my payment.
Unfortunately, I can not log in. What I got is just a simple error message, which simply mentioned my account is banned because suspected fraud click was found.
It provides no proven figures.
Why Admob banned my account without any proven evidence? Why Admob banned my account just before a $60 payment is going to issued?
If you search from the Internet, you will know that another advertising agent under Google, Google Adsense, also banned people with no reasonable explainations and evidences. Many people complained but Google ignore them. Since Admob has integrated with Google Adsense, I totally believe that my account is banned just to skip my payment.
So, I promise that I will never use any earning methods from Google anymore!!!
